Jakarta Batik Typeface

Typeface Design

Jakarta Batik is an original typeface inspired from Indonesian Batik pattern. Previously known as one of Indonesia’s culture heritage, Batik has various types of patterns according to its place origin. The inspiration taken essentially in this typeface comes from Java. The pattern used to form Batik typeface is generated from two different Batik patterns. Both Kawung and Parang patterns particularly have been used since ancient Javanese kingdom by the royal families of Sultan.

This becomes the reason to highlight the specialization into a modern and dynamic form of typeface. As I relate back to my own culture, I aim to create a typeface that is modern but stays true to Indonesian culture. Both patterns are popularly known among all other batik patterns due to their distinctive styles in accordingly to their historic representation.
